3D fever

Now with the 3DS, haha. I've only played for a little bit, but so far I'm liking it :)

2011-12-14

Crap drivers

That's what I suppose is causing my laptop's Windows to be crapping up. It constantly disconnects from the network (only my computer, not any other computer in the house or cell phone).

The video card driver messed up Silverlight (hence, Netflix) when I updated it.

The computer freezes for minutes at a time for no reason whatsoever, though I can't imagine how that'd be a driver problem...but that's what I'm blaming it on.

Anywho, I'm installing the original drivers right now and hope that solves the problems, if not...I may just have to format the partition.

Fever

I think I'm going to blow up or something...if I don't make it, know that I despise you all :P

3D testing

We've been testing it with different stuff, to see how it looks on the new TV. So far it's pretty good.

We tested with a PS3 demo of Killzone 3, and it is pretty sweet. We're also planning on buying some 3D movies and we already bought Uncharted 3, though it's not yet in our hands.

This is what my mom and brother look like watching 3D content:

Ninja cut

I have a cut in my left thumb, that I really don't know how it got there.

I just noticed it this morning, and it makes me wonder, how long has it been there? What did I cut myself with? What was I doing? Why didn't it hurt? Why does it hurt now that I know it's there?

I find it very interesting how the human brain works that way. It's a totally superficial cut, but the exact moment you notice it's there, it starts to hurt. I've had that happen when I notice blood coming out of a cut or a scrape I didn't know I have. I once woke up to find out my left arm all covered in dried up blood, wtf? What could have made me bleed that much but at the same time not cause any pain? It freaked me out for a bit. Stupid brain.

Jazz

Hanging out with The Three Musketeers was pretty fun. Ate some vegan pizza, watched an episode of The Office, played some UNO, and went to see a jazz band play at a bar. It was awesome, I'll hang out with them again on Saturday, can't wait :).

But now, time to get some sleep, work tomorrow.

Visiting Uncle Sam

That's what I'll be doing tomorrow :).

My Visa expired back in June. But before that, I had not gone to the US since February. Feels like forever even if it's only 10 months.

But today I went to pick up my new Visa....finally!!! I'm looking at it right now. After all the bureaucracy shit from the US Consulate, it's finally here.

It still amazes me how two cities that are right next to each other are so very different. Ok, yes, they're in different countries, but even the air is different...but, that's not the point of this post. The point is that I will finally visit the Three Musketeers at their HQ.

Moving on...

How long 'til batteries die?

I mean for good.

I want to plug everything to charge it, even if it doesn't need electricity to work...ok, no, not really (that sounds wrong).

If my laptop can work with a rechargeable battery, why can't everything else? Like my wireless keyboard and mouse? Remotes...and that's pretty much it. Oh, and right now, I'm wondering that about the Wii Remotes. We had rechargeable Wii Remote batteries but they died, so we just bought normal AA rechargeable batteries.

I once had my old Game Boy Advance die on me while fighting with the last boss of Golden Sun. That's the kind of thing that could make me a murderer. It was back in the day when I still dared to keep playing for hours after the little green battery light turned to red...that was stupid. I learned the lesson the hard way. Same way one learns a lesson about saving a file regularly after having a file completely lost because you didn't save it and the power went off or something.

So, kids, whenever editing a file, just press Ctrl+S (Cmd+S for macboys) every 2 minutes, and if the battery light of a device turns to red (or whatever indicates low battery), you better have more batteries handy. Of course, this advice is stupid, it's like you not to jump from a 15 story building if you have no intentions to commit suicide.

Broken promise

I don't watch TV. The only thing I do watch on TV are sports. Exclusively.

But I also get addicted with series. Enter Netflix. I don't like waiting a whole week to watch the next episode so I just wait 'til the season's over to watch it all. Right now I'm watching "How I Met Your Mother." I just picked that one randomly cause Netflix put it as recommendation and I remember a friend mentioned it once, so I made the connection in my head and just started watching it. I'm liking it so far.

There is, however, a series that I said I was going to watch because Mari recommended it (Parks & Recreation), but it keeps slipping my mind. And I've told her like 5 times I would, I just forget, and by the time I remember about it, I'm already in the middle of another one and I just can't stop.

So, Mari, I will try my best to watch P&R right after HIMYM :)

Super awesome mega epic gaming night

Or something to that effect, I forget what I have called it other times.

My friend (Hugo) and me once, a couple of years ago, played Gears of War 2 in co-op in its entirety in one sitting. That was not the original plan at the time. He was just going to bring his Xbox to my house, we would rent a game and we would play for a while, and that's it. But we were having so much fun, and time was passing so fast, that the sunrise came and we were still playing. We were so far into the story that we didn't want to leave it like that, so naturally, we finished it. It was like 9am.

Some time later, over a year ago, we tried to recreate it with another game. We wanted an action-packed game that had a co-op option. We decided to go for Army of Two: The 40th Day. It would be again in my house, so he brought his Xbox and we went to rent the game. Now the plan WAS to pass it all in one sitting, no matter what time we finished...however, God did not smile on us that day (sarcasm, atheist :D). His Xbox died that night, we couldn't even start the game. We tried a quick search for ways to fix it, but we couldn't. After some mourning, we just played Rock Band 2 for a little while and we called it a night (when he left the sun had already come out, so we must have spent a lot of time mourning).

Tonight (or last night?), after more than a year, the next attempt was scheduled. He had just bought a new Xbox, a 32" HDTV and Gears of War 3. This time, his house would be the seat of this SAMEGN (abbreviation of the name I literally just made up) session. We did start the game, it looked awesome, we had fun, the whole package. Alas, we did not finish it. We played 'til 6am, and I don't know how long the game is, but I'm pretty sure we were at least at 80% of the campaign. Good thing is he actually owns the game, it's not a rental, so we can easily just pick up where we left off.

All in all, it was pretty awesome :)

Hiatus over

I'm going to attribute my lack of blogging lately to two things:

1. Some of you stopped blogging and I kind of just followed suit.
2. I've been pretty much neglecting everything besides work because of Zelda. I've been playing it non stop. I'm about at 90% of the story, but I want to get every possible thing there is, which could take a couple of days more.

Anyway, those are my excuses...I'm not saying they're good, but there they are.

2011-11-28

I'll try this as soon as I get home

That's always a constant thought I have when I'm obsessed with a video game (currently Skyward Sword). I'm some place like work or school and I'm thinking about what things I haven't tried or done yet in the game. And then I make mental notes about all those things to try as soon as I get home.

Lots of these things end up being useless, but when you're only thinking of doing them instead of actually doing them they make a lot of sense in your head.

2011-11-24

Intense pool battle

I went to play pool with a friend, and a friend of his, but only me and my friend played.

We played a total of 16 games. I think it's the most I've played in a single night.

At first I was kicking ass. My biggest advantage was 6-2. My friend seemed to be having an off night. But then he started playing better and better. Most games of the last eight were decided with the 8 ball being the last in the table.

Then, all of a sudden we're 7-7. Games were so close, but he ended up winning most of them. Second to last game he beat me in like 5 minutes, I didn't do anything. And the last game seemed like it was going to be the same way, but after he missed the ball that would make him win, I defended myself and it was again only the eight ball in the table...he eventually won and it was 9-7 for him. He won the last five games, but it was really entertaining :).

2011-11-22

I know why it rained today

Because I washed my car...yup, can't be another reason.

It had been at least some 4 months since I last washed my car, and I wash it...and of course it rains the next day. That, my friends, is why I don't wash it often.

Ok, I know it's coincidence, but if it were the lottery, I'd have pretty good odds at winning it. Easily, easily, 90% of the times I wash my car, it rains the next day, maybe I'll start playing lottery, haha.

2011-11-20

Zelda...

...is all I can think about right now. Have not been this excited for a videogame in a while. I still don't have it in my hands, but man, oh man, do I want to play it. Good timing too, with school being over this semester and all :D.

Also, tomorrow is a holiday, which means no work, awesome!!!

Show

I went to see a friend's friend's band play. My friend had told me on several occasions how his friend's band was really cool and how his friend played drums very good. And today I finally saw them. My and my friend went to one of the band's shows, and they do play pretty awesome. They play only original music unlike most local bands, and they're not like any of them, I would say kind of progressive, but maybe not, lol. Pretty cool night :)

2011-11-18

Arrivederci school semester

Today was the last day of classes this semester. No feeling better than this one :). I still have to go check for some grades next week, but I am officially stress free...ok, I was never stressed, but I will definitely enjoy weekends more :D.

I also got my microSD card today, so the ride to work will be all the sweeter...because of the music in my car, not the actual going to work, haha.

2011-11-17

Daaaaamn that's slow

I am not exaggerating when I say this: but today, it took the computer I use at work (Mac Mini), 22 minutes to shut down, yup, no more, no less.

And on an unrelated topic, I managed to set up a proxy in my phone :). I can now watch US Netflix in there, oh yeah. Doesn't work for the Android Market though, so I can't download apps that are unavailable for México, like Google Music, which is actually why I started doing it, cause I want Google Music in my phone...but won't be able to till Google releases it in here :(

2011-11-16

Irrational fear

I brought my laptop to school to do some work cause I was going to have some time.

While searching for an outlet for my computer in one of the less visited buildings, I came across a whole zone with absolutely no people. There were 3 empty and dark classrooms. I went into one of those and plugged in my laptop.

It was completely quiet. It didn't even seem like there were students outside the building. It was as if the building was closed and I had snuck inside.

Precisely because of that I kept thinking I was going to get caught...caught? It's not like I was somewhere I wasn't supposed to be. The school is for all of us. Yet I kept feeling as if I was hiding from the authority (if there were one).

At one point a cleaning dude took a peek inside the room and saw me sitting in the dark by myself. I felt like getting caught red handed...until he just waved at me and left.

Pretty weird...

2011-11-14

Another step closer.

I admit it, there have been some stupidity on my part in this whole Visa renewal process.

However, the US is more at fault than me. Their website for filling the application is not very good (I prefer doing that than showing up at the consulate though). I had to practically harass them for them to send me my mexican passport so I could send it back to them (don't even know why they have to send it if I'm just going to send it back to them).

But today I got a real official answer, 5-10 days. Now we're talking. So, El Paso people, prepare for some Sergio in your city soon :)

Weather

It's back to not being cold. I don't like that.

I'm getting a little obsessed with weather lately, something I had never done before. I actually check to see what the weather the next day is going to be like and what's it going to be like at nights.

It kind of makes me feel old, don't know why.

2011-11-13

Memory upgrade

It's about time I upgraded my phone's external memory. It came with a 2GB microSD card, but between the applications and the podcasts and stuff, it gets full pretty quickly. It doesn't even give me enough space for a decent amount of music, meaning I can't really enjoy a good random music driving session, cause it's almost always the same songs (right now, it only fits like 4 albums in pretty good quality).

I finally ordered a 16GB card, that'll be enough for apps, music and podcasts. Car music will be once again mysterious and entertaining :).

2011-11-12

Don't know, don't care

Somedy asked me if I liked box.
I said "no."
I'm thinking "that's the end of this conversation."
But nope, following act, he asks me if I'm watching some fight tomorrow 'cause apparently it's "the fight."

It just didn't matter what I answered to the question about me liking box, he already knew what he was going to say regardless of my answer, so, my question is, "why ask me in the first place?"

Don't know about box, don't care about box.

2011-11-10

Heater

I just placed an electric heater in my room. I've had it for like 2 hours and it's already pretty hot in the room...here's hoping it has a thermostat or it's going to be like a sauna in here (I'm too lazy to stand up and see right now).

2011-11-09

CyanogenMod

I just installed CyanogenMod on my phone. It's like a distribution of Android that improves on the functionality of the OS.

You can tweak lots of stuff and customize in great detail your phone. Plus it has support for themes.

It feels like I have a new phone...though my phine's warranty is super void by now haha.

Here's a random picture. Diego knocked over some hot sauce.

2011-11-08

Cool walk

Now that the weather is actually a little cold and that nighttime comes earlier in the day, I'm starting to enjoy more my walks around school.

There's something about having my jacket on that makes my backpack feel nicer when carrying it. Like if it belonged there, like it was part of my body. Of course, it only feels like that cause it's so light. I only carry a couple of notebooks and that's it.

It also feels nice walking in the dark without fear of getting mugged or even worse, kidnapped or killed (those last two are not common thoughts...but they're there), which is what one would feel walking around in this city.

However, this will only last two weeks...which is when the semester ends for me. Then wait till January to resume my walks...I'm not complaining though, I like my school breaks way better than my school walks.

False contact

I'm guessing my brain has a false or something, it's like it doesn't register anymore that I have to blog everyday.

I've missed three of the last five days and I was about to miss today too. Gotta blog three days in a row for my brain to register that function again...so, this is number one

2011-11-06

One more hour

Oh, yes...when we wake up tomorrow, it'll be one hour earlier :D. I bet this is the earliest I'm going to wake up on a Sunday, haha. Anywho, I'm pretty beat, going to bed now :)

2011-11-03

Logic and basic math

That's pretty much all I needed for my second screencast. I finished the code already. I just need to refactor it and write a script draft. And obviously, the recording of my screen and voice. I'm also thinking of throwing some diagrams to show how I made the calculations but I'm afraid that alone is going to take me more time than all the rest combined.

I'm also learning some basic CoffeeScript and Sass, cause they are now on by default in Rails 3.1 :D

Here are a couple of pics of what the screencast will look like:

This is what it looks like when the page loads

As you scroll down, notice the date stays in sight
When the date reaches the bottom of the post, it stays there

And as you keep scrolling down the date of the next post stays in sight

Zend Framework

I decided to learn a new PHP framework...just because. At least to some degree.

I read that Zend Framework was really hard to learn and whatnot, so that made me want to learn it more :).

I've been doing some freelance work at the jewelry again, that's why my second screencast has been advancing pretty slow, though I already know what it'll be about, and I already started coding it, but it's not finished at all yet.

2011-11-01

Lullaby

By Chuck Pallahniuk...that's my next book.

After who knows how much time, I finally finished The Stand. I liked out a lot, though at times it seemed a little too religious for my taste.

It's going to be nice reading a "short" book for a change, or at least it will seem short after that 1000+ page book I just read.

2011-10-31

Homework-free weekend

They don't come too often, but when they do, man, am I happy.

One thing is having homework and just plain not doing it (which I've done a couple of times). But actually knowing that there is no homework at all, I can even sleep at ease. The weekend automatically becomes more enjoyable.

Even though yesterday (when I forgot to blog btw) I didn't really do anything, cause I didn't sleep a single minute before going to work and by the time I got home from work, I was practically a zombie, so I slept all afternoon and woke up at around 9:30pm. Friday night/Saturday early morning was pretty cool though: movies, pool, Apples to Apples, poker, and pretty hilarious phrases all night long :D.

2011-10-28

Flat tire

Yup, I got a flat tire today. Second time it's happened to me in the five and a half years I've owned my car. The first time that it happened though, I even bent the rim on a train track and the tire exploded, and that was a little over five years ago. I think that's a pretty good record haha.

2011-10-27

Test

I have a test tomorrow...I have not studied.

I keep telling myself I'll study the next day...doesn't work.

A and I have a paper due on Friday...I have not started it.

I can already see myself doing it all tomorrow half assed...but then again, it wouldn't be the first time, I always roll like this :)

2011-10-25

The Stand

By Stephen King.

That's the book I'm currently reading.

Twenty seven thousand paragraphs...that's one hell of a long book.

Been reading one or two chapters a day for three weeks and I'm only halfway through. I'm enjoying it though :)

2011-10-24

Where's the cold?

I want to know!!! What's taking so long?!?!?!

I know, I know, it never comes this early. But at least enough reduction in temperature so that I don't have to sleep with the A/C on!!! Sheeeeeeeeesh!!!

2011-10-23

Near kill experience

I almost ran over someone today.

I'm not making this up, but he was crossing the street as if he wanted to get hit by a car. He was crossing at just the pace that if I hadn't slowed down I would've for sure hit him.

And after I almost completely stopped he started walking a little faster to catch the car two lanes over. He was not successful, the other car  slowed down too.

2011-10-22

Success

Doesn't it feel good when you finally, after so many days, do something that works just like you want it to work?

I had been struggling to make something work like it was supposed to work at my job for days.

I finally got it working today, I actually smiled :D

It's a script that automatically converts uploaded videos to a format that can be played almost everywhere and then it uploads the video to YouTube, pretty cool, huh?

2011-10-20

A Secret Place

Well, not so much secret as it is "not frequently visited." (I was just referencing the Megadeth song).

I found these fire exit stairs in the back of a building at school where almost nobody walks through. It quickly became my goto place for passing time; maybe listen to a podcast, read a chapter of a book, or just stare at the sky and relax.

It's pretty cool cause by the time I get to school, the sun doesn't hit it directly anymore.

I am somewhat afraid of a pigeon crapping on me though...not that I've seen pigeon crap there...but all this staring at the sky makes me think so.

Screencast

Ok, it's up. You can hear the nervousness in my voice. Plus the bad quality, cause I don't have a proper mic, I used the one in the laptop. For some reason the screen is only in the middle of the video, but if you view it in full screen it's distinguishable. But anyway, I hope I get better at this with time :).

I'm thinking of doing a separate blog just for the screencasts and in spanish (cause the screencast is in spanish). Here's a link to the code in case any of you want to try it.

Here it is...

2011-10-19

Video editing

It's harder and more time consuming than I thought. 2 hours editing a 17 minute video, damn!!! Plus one hour recording it.

I finally finished with my screencast...

I can honestly say it sucks balls. It's way harder than I imagined, talking to a computer is no easy task. It doesn't feel natural and listening to your own voice feels weird.

Nonetheless, I will continue doing them and it can only get better from now on. Hopefully more easily and a little better every time :)

It's rendering right now, I'll post it tomorrow.

2011-10-18

Air Bud

Have you heard of those movies? A dog that can play basketball, football, volleyball, baseball.

I hadn't...but when browsing through Netflix, Diego and I stumbled upon them...

I nearly threw up just looking at the cover pictures. It amazes me how stupid people have to be to find that stuff entertaining...well, not really, we watched parts of them, you know, just to see how a fucking dog plays baseball, I mean, BASEBALL!!!

He looks absolutely ridiculous, it's an insult to anybody's intelligence. And he not only plays, apparently he's on par with the best professionals, he actually won the World Series. WHAT...THE...FUCK!!!

If anybody watched one of those movies in its entirety and genuinely enjoyed it, he/she shouldn't be able to vote...for anything.

2011-10-17

Football

American football.

I don't follow the season closely. I mostly only know how my team (Packers) does every couple of weeks.

But when I wake up on Sundays, odds are that my brothers and father are watching a game in the living room, and sometimes I like to join them.

I know most of the rules, so I'm never wondering what the hell is going on. And I find it entertaining.

Having said that, I never would wake up early to watch a game, or watch a game by my own. Well, maybe the playoffs.

2011-10-16

Floor art

Me and my friends went towhat seemed to be a job fair...but without the job offers, haha.

There were booths from several work places (mostly maquilladoras), and they explained what they did, showed their product and stuff like that.

Outside of the building where that was, there was a park of sorts, don't really know how to describe it. Anyway, in one part there were people drawing on the floor, and people were encouraged to do it.

2011-10-15

One step closer

Today I went to take my picture and fingerprints for my Visa. It was a pretty fast and straightforward process, I did not expect that. I was prepared to spend at least a couple of hours in line.

Now hopefully, if nothing goes wrong, in a couple of weeks I'll be able to visit Uncle Sam again :)

2011-10-14

Overly enthusiastic

Talking about Sophie, that little dog loving, animal noise maker, couch climbing, hyperactive, 4 year old girl...you know who I'm talking about, right Chuy and Angelica? After all, you two made her haha.

The entire time we were watching Toy Story 3 I couldn't stop hearing whoas, oh noes, hahas, ohs, Woody!!!, etc.

It was pretty fun though :D

2011-10-13

Double content

I had previously posted about using a proxy to watch Hulu (cause it's only available in the US). I may have also mentioned that my brother used it to access Netflix before it was available in Mexico.

Well, now that it IS available in Mexico, I can use the same account and access both the US and the Mexico content by just activating and deactivating the proxy, which is awesome.

Some content is only available in one of the two, and I don't have problems with the language so it all works out.

I hadn't tried it cause I thought my account was only valid in Mexico, good thing it isn't :)

I'm going to watch "The Walking Dead" now that it's just been released on Netflix US

2011-10-11

Battery drainer

In order for my phone battery to last all day, I need to turn off the 3g. Either that or always be in reach of a wifi network.

When I'm at home or at work that's no problem, I have wifi and don't move a lot.

The problem comes at school. They have a wifi connection. I always use it with my laptop without a problem. But for some reason when I connect to it with my phone, it becomes very unreliable. I'm talking lapses of even 10 minutes with no internet access.

If I turn on the 3g I have no connectivity issues but the battery gets drained super fast...the trick is to turn on 3g just to sync data every 20 or 30 minutes and turn it right off.

Smart phone battery management seems like a profession.

2011-10-10

What does it take...

...to write movie/series subtitles?

I often ask myself that question. I've seen crappy subs too many times, as if the person writing them didn't really know what the writer meant and just came up with something him/herself.

Another aspect I often wonder about is how much freedom do they have to change lines or jokes that can't really be translated.

Maybe I just like translating...

2011-10-09

Weaksauce

Played futbol with the family. I have an awful condition. And I hurt a knee. I had trouble going up the stairs.

I feel like an old man, my body is weaksauce.

2011-10-06

Perfect timing

So, I'm doing the finishing touches to the screencast I'm doing, and when I'm recording Twitter decides to fail (I use Twitter in the screencast)...

2011-10-05

Steve Jobs...

...died today...

When I found out, I was shocked. It didn't surprise me, I knew he had cancer and wasn't in his prime health-wise, but still, it was a shock.

I'm not an Apple fanboy. The only Apple product I have ever bought is a 1st generation iPod nano back when it was just released. Nonetheless, Steve Jobs greatly influenced the technology world as we know it nowadays.

His work has inspired countless people to follow his steps and their dreams. He showed the world that if you really want to accomplish something and aim for it, you can make it happen.

One of the great minds in modern times...he will certainly be remembered.

And here's hoping Apple Inc. stays as strong as ever.

"Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life" -Steve Jobs

Mystery title

I don't usually see movies I don't know what they're about, less so movies I didn't know existed.

Today I did just that. I was browsing the Netflix catalog, and clicked on "The Big Lebowski," (I did know about that movie). After setting that it was dubbed, I stopped it and just clicked on the next recommendation, "Stranger Than Fiction."

That's the one I didn't know existed.It had a four star rating, so I figured what the hell...and it wasn't bad :)

2011-10-04

Break over

Last week was the "Semana de Ingeniería" (Engineering Week) at my school.

No classes, just talks and presentations and stuff like that. But they're not good at all. The presenters don't really make an effort, and students don't really go to learn.

So I didn't go at all.

But now it's over and classes are resuming...

2011-10-02

Eyes are closing

I'm trying to think about what to post, and my eyes keep shutting down.

It's weird, the only day I have to sleep as late as I want, and it's the day I get sleepy the earliest.

Went to play pool with a couple of friends. We were playing "retas" cause it was only three of us. Very cool and super fun night.

2011-10-01

No computer for me

I'm going to try and sleep without the computer on every day. It's not good for my sight.

Instead I'll read...on my phone,  which isn't that much different cause it's still a screen, but I figure it'll be better (could be totally wrong though)

Today will be the first one :)

2011-09-30

Afternoon nap

I'm a vampire.

I'm simply not a morning person. I like nights, I don't like sleeping early and neither do I like waking up early.

I can't seem to help it. Night are much more relaxing. Even if I have to wake up early I can't sleep before 1 am.

So, obviously, I get very sleepy on afternoons. And sometimes I take a little nap...except it's not so little. More like a 4 hour nap...and, naturally, that makes it way harder to sleep early...

2011-09-28

New discoveries

It seems I may have misjudged Netflix México.

When I first tried it, I saw a couple of series just for testing and they were both dubbed, and I assumed all of them were going to be like that.

Well, not really, in fact, most have multiple audio tracks and subtitles :). When I was home sick all day, I watched Netflix nonstop. Discovered a couple of series I hadn't heard about. Breakind Bad and Weeds. They're pretty cool, and even better with no commercials :D.

I hope I don't become a Netflix junkie though, haha.

Random pic, it doesn't get more generic than this:

Sick indeed

Well, I spent all day today in bed. I wanted to go see Caifanes but didn't feel well enough :S

And just to put a random picture, a little Iron Man on a wall. Took it on Saturday

May be getting sick

I have that feeling in the throat you get when you know you're about to get sick. Maybe I should stop turning on the A/C in my room at night, now that it's not unbearably hot...but I can't get myself to do it yet, I love having the room cold so I can cover up :).

I'm going to do a Screencast on some JavaScript code. Today I started with the "pre-production." I'll post about it here when I'm done. Though it may take some time cause I'm still not very experienced in recording and editing and whatnot.

I hung out with the friend (Valles) we didn't hang out with yesterday (cause he couldn't go to the reunion). Went to the mall, knowing we weren't going to buy anything, just look at stuff. Then to play pool :D. It was pretty empty, maybe I should start going on Sundays.

Halloween is not very far away

The band Enanitos Verdes gave a free show in the city, for the ongoing Chihuahua International Festival (FICH), and I didn't have plans to go see 'cause I don't really like them. But a friend (Mamer) told us to go with him. But by the time we got there, it was over, haha. I blame that on Mamer because he told us pretty damn late.

We just saw people leaving :P

Then we went to Mamer's house to hang out, and we starting discussing The Bible (they are both Catholics, I am not :P).

Birthday presents

Today I got my presents from Mari and my uncle Gustavo :).

Opeth's "Heritage" & Symphony X's "Iconoclast". New music for my car :D

Just one more page

I've been reading a lot in my phone. With the Kindle app. And the "pages" are so short, you read one in mere seconds, it's so easy to just say one more page. I read like 25% of the book I'm reading today, though I'm not actually sure as to how many normal physical pages that is. In the app it just says, location 6000, 75%. I don't know how that 6000 is measured, I think paragraphs.

I had to change the text to white with a black background, not because I like it more, but so that it doesn't use as much battery.

No pic today at all, I can't even think of a random think to take a picture of in my room.

Stuck in my own world

Today there were a bunch of motorcycles parked outside the office where I work:

I never really found out why, or who did they belong to.

When I'm at work, I don't really pay attention to anything that happens around me. I almost always have my earphones on, so even if somebody at work was talking about why the bikes were there, I didn't listen.

I was like that when I didn't have an office, and now more so that I have my little office...but I've always been like that. I cannot work and talk at the same time. I really need to concentrate and I may come off as a jerk, cause I seem pretty cold, and I always give very short and to the point answers...but if I'm on a roll at something I'm programming, I can't really take a break to tell you a story, or to listen to something lengthy, I need to finish what I'm doing...

Couldn't take it anymore

I thought the Facebook app on my phone was the one at fault for not giving notifications. Today I noticed the Google+ app stopped doing it too. And some of my settings weren't getting saved.

I honestly didn't know how to fix it, or what was causing it. So, being the computer person that I am, just did a factory reset on my phone, haha. I still don't know if it worked or not...I'll know in the morning.

Good thing is I didn't lose the root permission on my phone AND the Talk app (the one that actually got me to root the phone) wasn't deleted, so yeah, at least I won't have to deal with that again...

I keep forgetting to take pics...so here's another random one from my room:

There are 3 of these around the house...apparently they are needed everywhere

Why all the hate?

Google+ and Facebook today made a bunch of changes. I like that :). To me, days like today are considered good news days. I open up Google+, and almost half of the people I've circled is sharing the same link, new features added to Google+. And then I see a link explaining Facebook changes.

I for one like the changes. But yeah...Facebook users can be so bitchy!!! They always hate everything Facebook does (ok, not everybody, but the ones that speak up about it). They hate the fact that Facebook makes changes. How does Facebook dare make changes without their permission??? Yes, some features are a little bit more useless than others, but to go ahead and threaten to leave FB just because they're making changes??? Come one people!!! They're trying new things, not all of them are going to work out, but they can't stay the same forever. They don't want to lose absolutely no ground to Google+, which I don't think they're doing, but if they didn't do anything at all, they probably would.

You CAN dislike a change, but you don't have to be a dick about it. So, they added "smart lists", so fucking what??? Don't like them??? Don't fucking use them!!! No need to create a group called "Stop with all the changes!!! I don't like them!!!" Not gonna get you very far. If you're going to give feedback, try to at least use a little your brain, just a little, that's all I'm asking, who knows, you may even make sense when you write. Give constructive criticism. This is an example of non-constructive criticism: "The new chat is so stupid!!! Fix it!!!"

Faisbuk users r so gay!!! <--- That's pretty much how every one of them sounds.

Aaaannnnnd, now that my little rant is over. My phone that I almost swallowed works again, haha.

I have to take off the battery so the alarm won't go off...
And it's now sitting there, all useless. It's been working for weeks but I didn't have a pic for today :P

Immorality?

New Dream Theater CD came out a week ago. In case you didn't know, I'm a bigtime DT fan. BIGTIME.

Having it come out so close to my birthday (which was today) was pretty cool. I figured I could have somebody gift it to me. Sure enough, Mari offered to do it, and I was not going to listen to it till she gave it to me.

But then, I found out that my brother (Diego) bought the CD from iTunes. I didn't know he was going to buy it, nor did I ask him to. But he likes DT too, so it seems logical for him to do so.

Now, I don't have a lot of experience with iTunes, but from what I played with it last night, I came to the conclusion that I hate it. I wanted to transfer the songs to my phone, cause there's no point in buying it myself (well, I'm pretty sure DT wouldn't mind). Only cause it's digital doesn't mean I can't "borrow" it from my brother. But it's so fucking hard to keep iTunes synced in various computers. I wanted it in my laptop so I could sync it with the rest of my music, and not the rest of my brother's music, but I wasn't able to do it. So... I downloaded it from other "sources."

Was I wrong in doing that? I only downloaded it cause my brother bought it. I want to support the artist. But I don't want to re-buy the album just so I can have it in my laptop. But this wouldn't have happened if iTunes wasn't retarded. Anywho, I don't feel morally guilty at all :).

Check out who started following my blog:

WTF?
I went to his bio, and he writes awful!!! Ok, Kold_whatever, if you're a real legit person, I'm sorry, I have absolutely no respect for you...but thanks for following my blog though :)

Lazy sunday indeed...

Well, just as I said, today was a very calm and relaxing day.

Slept like 12 hours, woke up at 2pm. That always makes me feel very guilty, like if my day has been wasted...even though I would have probably done nothing productive. Stupid brain, so easily deceived.

My day consisted mostly in reading (and of course eating and going to the bathroom, but I figured those were a given). Also, looking for a Bible in the house to look up ridiculous passages. Nobody could tell me where the one we have is...that's how much The Bible is read around here.

If you ever wondered what a "human seat" looked like, wonder no more:

Busy weekend

I've had a somewhat busy weekend.

Friday: Mexican holiday which, of course means, no work. Saw a movie with friends, Tenampa made me a pasta that I love too much for my birthday and a cake. Gave a super express crash course of PHP sessions in the company we work at. And went to play pool at night with Fani, her bf and a friend of hers. I drank a little bit, and that's why I was in no condition to drive home, so I spent the night again at my aunts'. But I had to go to work early, so that night's sleep was just like 3 and a half hours.

Saturday: Work from 8am-2pm. Learn that Mari was going to ditch me even though she came up with the idea of doing something for my bday. I went to the movies anyway with some cousins, saw "Paranormal Activity 2: Tokyo Night" (which for some strange reason is called "Actividad Paranormal 0: El origen" in Spanish)...all I gotta say is, it's not my cup of tea, did not like it. Also, the people at that particular showing were being douche bags, they kept talking very loud, and laughing at things that weren't supposed to be funny. It pissed me off. The movie is Japanese, so it's spoken entirely in Japanese. But since the stupid people at the theater apparently find other languages funny, they even laughed at how one of the protagonists said "sister" in Japanese. Yeah, totally stupid. Then went dancing at night...don't know why, I just did. Probably won't do it again for some 10-15 years.

But now it's time to sleep, knowing I don't have to wake up early. And to enjoy a peaceful and relaxing Sunday ...

2011-09-17

Another short one

I am again not spending the night at my house, I am about to fall asleep but don't want to miss a day haha, so, good night or good morning people :P

There is Netflix after all

In México that is. The selection of movies/series though...needs a little work.

I honestly had no idea, but while listening to a podcast, I heard about the Netflix Android app, and while trying to download it and failing miserably (cause I'm not in the US...yeah, makes no sense, since the service itself is available in México), I went to the website and found out about it :).

Besides the selection being kind of poor (mostly on series; there are lots of Mexican soap operas, which make me want to hurl just by reading the names), the couple of episodes I've watched of series just for testing are dubbed...that's a no no for me. The movies are subbed, at least.

Now, changing topics a little, can you try to make sense of what Mari was trying to say here?

I cut out my parts, but if you follow the "conversation," it's actually not hard at all to understand. This last one though, I actually just got it as I was writing the blog, haha.

Facebook hates me too

You already know Google hates me.

Well, I think Facebook hates me too...or maybe it's still Google's hatred towards me.

I have an Android phone, and I installed the Facebook app on it. Supposedly it gives you push notifications when you get a notification on Facebook. I don't get any notifications...

At first I thought it was my phone, but then a friend of mine who has the exact same phone told me that he DOES get notifications. Hmmm, could it be because I rooted it? Facebook and/or Google, cut that shit out!!!

Another random pic:
How many customers do you think this attracts in one hour? My guess is -5

Redesign

This is just an entry to say I've redesigned my blog. I (as many developers) suck, SUCK, at design, so if you please won't laugh at my face when giving constructive criticism. This will not count towards my post for the day.

Now, enjoy the rest of your life :)

Playing in dangerous waters

You may remember that I once (or maybe more times) mentioned that I like to play with pre-final versions of software...

Well, today they released the Windows 8 Developer Preview...I'm downloading it, but I'm hesitant as to whether I should install it or not. One thing is to install an alpha version of Opera, or the Canary build of Chrome, if they don't work, I'll just uninstall them...

But Windows 8, now THAT's scary. I'll probably end up doing it, cause I'm too impulsive when it comes to these kind of things (and many other). I guess I just wrote this to psychologically prepare myself.

Just short of 5GB...and it's 80% complete as I write this.

I also finished reading "God, No!". Today I started reading "God Hates You, Hate Him Back: Making Sense of The Bible" by CJ Werleman (another e-book Diego bought, I'm starting to dig this Diego-buying-me-reading situation we got going on here).

Offline...apparently

Google deleted my Talk contacts...WHAT...THE...FUCK!!!

Ok, I'm not really sure what happened, I can't blame Google just because, but I know I didn't do it, so the next logical entity to blame it on is Google.

I look at my contacts list, and I see 4 people...that's it. It seemed very strange that nobody was online, I always had at least like 8 contacts online (and lots offline). I tried searching for a contact (Mari in fact, cause she's the one who told me I'd been offline for a while, when she knows I'm online 24/7), and yup, she wasn't there. Am I going to have to re-invite people to Talk just to start seeing if they're online again?

NOT...COOL...

I'm too lazy to do it, I don't even remember most of my contacts email addresses...I'll add 2 or 3 people tops...but yeah, Google, if you're reading this, make it right!!!

And just to not leave the post pictureless:
$100 pesos coin...not very common (and not mine either)

2011-09-11

Short one

I'm spending the night at my aunt Maribel's, so I'll just keep this one short haha

2011-09-10

Socialize, sleep and socialize again

By the first socialize, I mean, hanging out on Google+ with Angélica and Chuy :).

When I got home from work, I couldn't help but fall asleep, I just didn't have the energy to stay awake. I was writing in my other blog, fell asleep, and when I woke up, the text I had written wasn't there anymore :S.

Then I hung out with my friends from school. But friends from 4 years ago, the ones I met when I was in my first semester. Since we all have different majors, I don't see them at school anymore (well, I only see one of them at school in my Sociology class, which is a hoot thanks to him). Played some pool :D. And had a great time overall, they bring out the crazy in me. I don't even have to drink to act all crazy and stupid...though maybe all the sugar from the Coke has something to do with it....

Now, I hope I don't fall asleep again...I can't really afford to miss work again, they'd probably fire me if I did...

(I'll update this post with pics tomorrow when my friend sends me the pics he took with his camera)

Tethering

I was messing around with my phone, tapping here and there, downloading this and that, messing up some stuff, you know, the usual. And I was near my laptop. I usually mess around with my phone when I'm not near a computer. So I came to a menu in my phone that says "Tethering and portable hotspots". I had seen it before, I knew I had to test it out someday...and that day was today. (Blogger is being difficult and won't let me put a link in a word...so I'll just link to the Tethering Wikipedia article in here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tethering)

I thought it was going to be a pain in the ass to set it up cause I've heard horror stories about it. But nope, it was painless. First I tried tethering, I just plugged my phone to my computer via USB, tapped on a checkbox in my phone that says "USB tethering" and that's it. I now was connected to the internet on my computer through my phone's 3G.
The Wi-Fi connection in my house is 'Valencia'. You can even see I'm connected through a wired connection in the icon.
Next, creating a hotspot. Equally as easy. Just choose my connection name and password, tick the checkbox that says "Mobile AP", and boom! My phone is now a wireless hotspot (named Sergio). I connected my laptop and Diego's phone to it to test it out, and it worked perfectly :D.
Having two adjacent connections called "Sergio" and "Valencia" was totally coincidental :P

On a different note, apparently Facebook really misses Mari's alter ego Supermari... I couldn't tag her by typing her name, I had to actually write '@supermari' for Facebook to know who I was talking about haha.

Note: I, myself, don't even know why I didn't take shots with my laptop instead of taking the pics with my phone...I guess I forgot at the moment that the computer could do that...

2011-09-08

My new game is...

...Dead Space 2.

A survival horror action/shooter game. Mari lent it to me over a week ago, but I just started playing it. I played the first one some months ago on PC, and I gotta say, my accuracy is way off with a controller. I played too many games in a row on my PC that I feel the need of a mouse and keyboard to aim and shoot, haha.

I spent waaaaaaay too much time editing this seemingly uninteresting video. For some reason Ubuntu always acts weird when I'm doing something late at night. And I don't even know if it has audio, haha.

I shot the video way too high, there's lots of black on the bottom of the video. I know it's not a professional video or anything, but still...

2011-09-07

Am I an atheist?

Why, yes I am, thanks for asking :). Are you?

I started reading Penn Jillete's "God, No!: Signs You May Already Be an Atheist and Other Magical Tales". Diego bought a digital copy from Amazon, installed the Kindle app on my phone just to test it out and left it logged in so I can read it whenever I want on my phone (not ideal, perhaps...but it's something).

It was actually convenient today at work, cause I was reformatting the computer I use at work, and while I was waiting for it to finish, I was reading the book :).

I also have 5 2x1 entrances for the movie theater that I have to use before October 20th...I just need to trick five people (or any combination of less people but 5 times) to go to the movies with me, I'll just tell 'em I'll buy the tickets, and just buy theirs and get mine free, hahaha, nah, not really...maybe :P

2011-09-06

That little yellow triangle...

...you know, the one in the Windows' connection strength...

It's never good, seeing it is like finding out you poured cereal in a bowl only to find there's no milk in the fridge (weird analogy, and not a very good one, I'll admit it).

Except it's much worse...I can live without cereal...I can't live without internet...

2011-09-05

Love & Hate

Sunday, the only day of the week I get to wake up as late as I want (well...except for yesterday when I fell asleep). The only day I practically have all for myself. When I usually go to the movies with my dad, or just chill at the house, play a video game, catch up on my feeds, stuff like that...

I like Sundays, they're relaxing, and they get my mind off of everything else (not that I'm stressed, or have problems in my life, but still, that feeling is nice).

Now, something I don't like: homework...

Not only do I not like it, I loathe it. I would be such a better student if I didn't have homework. I don't like feeling 'forced' to do something I don't want to, cause on the long run, if I didn't learn it voluntarily, I'm probably going to forget about it. I know, homework has its purpose, you can't really learn just by dedicating 4-5 hours a week to a subject...but this doing homework thing...I just don't have it in me...never have, probably never will.

I procrastinate hardcore when it comes to hw, and I usually get distracted learning other stuff, practicing other stuff, reading about other stuff (most of that 'stuff' is programming-related)...

...and what really sucks is having a shitload of homework, and having to do it (well, more like, pushing it back to) the day I usually use to relax :S

And Google couldn't find the people I've circled on Google+, haha:

2011-09-04

Fell asleep...

...and didn't go to work :/...

My alarm rings for 10 straight minutes, if I don't turn it off, it won't go off again...and yup, for 10 whole minutes I didn't listen to it, haha.

I don't like to post about the same thing as Tenampa or Mari (in case whatever they post involves me too)...but I seriously couldn't think of anything else besides the darts, cause it was the most entertaining part of the day. I know there's nothing wrong with posting about the same thing, but I still don't like to do it :P.

Here are my two 27s :)

Here are a couple of videos, skip to 0:23 on the second one:

And a random pic of me on a scooter:

2011-09-03

Near death experience

Not really, but when driving Tenampa to his house we came across a group of guys and what most likely was a dead man on the floor...

It was dark and I couldn't distinguish what it was until we were very close...and they all stared at us...it...was...scary as shit...

I imagined one of them pulling out a gun and point it at us...for one short moment I really thought that was the end...but I snapped out of it and turned to whichever street I could find...

Also, we went to play pool :)

2011-09-02

Locked out

I still don't know why they did it, but from 6:00pm to 6:25pm the computer lab was locked...a bunch of people had class at 6. People just standing around, not knowing what's going on, waiting to enter:

I also found out that there are very little books about Web Development at my school:
"What about this Analytic Geometry book?" "Just put it with the JavaScript books, nobody will notice"
And that's why I have to learn by myself and not in school. I'm pretty sure they are dated too...and that's a big problem for a topic like Web Development. It's not like it's a Calculus book, or Chemistry...where a book published years ago will be just as useful as a book published today...but take JavaScript for example (since the majority of books in the pic are of JS), you'd have to get a new book like every two years, cause the language itself keeps changing and so do the web browsers. Some books may even have code that by today's standards are considered bad practices or even deprecated...and this is true for almost every current programming language there is.

2011-09-01

Creepy room

The room next to mine gives me the creeps, I think the bogeyman lives there......:P

This pic doesn't seem frightening, but that's only cause I used a flash, it's usually pitch dark, and you can't walk at all, who's to say there's not a spider nest or somethins...

Plus, it's full of useless crap: empty drawers, an old as fuck computer, a box-spring, a very old mattress, lots and lots of boxes...there are a couple of Saint Seiya figures...but I think they're humanly impossible to reach...why must they be in the farthest corner???
