Mari already said in her blog about the feria, so I'll just mention that I went and it was fun.
While in the feria though, one of my friends called me, he and some other friends I hadn't seen in years were getting together at like 1am, haha. So, after the feria, I went to hang out with my friends.
We had such a good time, just saying stupid stuff, making fun of each other and remembering about stuff we did back in the day (I'm talking 2005-2006). So yeah, it's 6:55 and I just got home, it had been a long time, usually on a Saturday night, by 2am I am totally beat.
My friends also want to go to the feria next week and I'm going to go so I can get on the rides we didn't tonight, only because it's cheap as hell!

Drawing a blank...
I have been staring at the publish page for no less than 10 minutes, and I have absolutely no idea what to blog about.
It's 4:45am, I am kind of beat, and I have to wake up in 2 and a half hours.
It also just hit me that my summer break is over...back to school on Monday, damn, this was a short summer!!!

Turning left, while listening to music?
That's right :).
Ok, background: I think everybody who's been in my car knows that my stereo was not correctly hooked up, and whenever I used the left turn signal, the stereo turned off...I am as clueless as you as to why that happened, I just know it did. And I got used to not using the left turn signal unless I deemed really necessary (and if I didn't have the window open, cause then I could just stick out my arm and point left).
In the crash, my stereo got pushed very far back, about 2 inches from where it was supposed to be, and lazy that I am, I never bothered to pull it back. Apparently some of the messy connection on the back of the stereo were shorting out with something, and it was blowing a couple of fuses (which is why I didn't have taillights and turn signals before).
Couple of days passed and boom, car won't start...alternator was busted. Took it back to the shop to get it fixed and since the stereo was at fault, they also fixed the wiring :). I tell you, that crashed may have been a good thing after all, expensive and time-consuming, but good :).
Now I can use both turn signals and turn the volume up as much as I like (before it also powered off when I turned up the volume too much)...now it's just a matter of getting used to use them again

Ages...it had been ages since I had a snow cone.
I thought they had become extinct, like the "hielitos", but nope. I went biking with a friend today, and we saw a snow cone cart...so many childhood memories. With his huge block of ice, and a...um...tool...to...um...make it into a snow cone (oh, I should have written this post in Spanish, but I don't like inconsistencies). I had a coconut one :).
While bike riding with my friend, one of the tires of his bike exploded, it looked awesome, cause it got out of the rim (he didn't fall, so I can make fun of it). I felt like I was going to get hit by a car at least 4 times, I am so not used to riding a bike, when going downhill, I kept imagining like anything was going to make me fly. But it was fun :D

3rd book
So, it took longer than I would've liked to get my next book, but well, I got it.
This time, I bought it as a PDF, cause it was way cheaper and I wanted to start reading it right away, haha.
This one is on Rspec, a tool for testing on Ruby and/or Rails. I also ordered my 4th book, but I'll talk about it when I get it :)

Pool hunting
Tenampa wants to take part in a triathlon next year, and he wants to start training for it.
I love swimming.
Soooooo, the both of us are looking for a pool to go and train, I'm going to change the gym for the pool. I've been reading on how to effectively lose weight and tone your muscles swimming, but supposedly it's very hard to lose weight, cause swimming makes you super hungry...but I'll try my best. Plus, I actually enjoy swimming as opposed to going to the gym.
I also want to train with him for cycling, with a borrowed bike cause I don't have one...though that might be a little bit harder since I start school next week and won't have time on weekdays for both activities, only one (and I'd rather go swimming).

Dirty water
I've been meaning to post about this for a couple of months, but it kept slipping my mind.
The tap water here in the house has dirt...yes, dirt. You want to wash your hands? You end up with dirt in your hands. Shower? Dirt. Ok, it's not ALL the time, and if it's hot water, it comes out normal, so, when showering it's less of a problem, but if you want to wash your hands with hot water, you better do it fast, cause you will get burnt, haha.
It has become less lately, but at times (very rarely) it's almost 50/50 water and dirt, and the toilets stop working for short periods cause they're all full of dirt, it's very annoying. We have called and reported it, but they haven't fixed it :(.

How the hell does it go?!?!?!?!
I'm sure this has happened to everyone: you're talking about movies/shows/games/whatever, and then somebody asks "how does [some song] go?", and you think "pfff, how does (s)he not know that?", and when you're about hum the song...you don't know how it goes!!! It's right there, you know you know it, but it just won't come out. And somebody says "I know that if I'd listened to it, I would've known it was from [movie/show/game/whatever]".
That happened to me and my friend today with the Superman theme, we were "tarareando" John Williams themes...Star Wars, somebody hums...Indiana Jones, sure...Harry Potter, ok...Superman...um...how does it go??? All of us looking at each other, eagerly waiting for somebody to do it...nothing...silence...they gave up and changed the subject (I know there are tons of John Williams themes, but we were just starting, and got stuck pretty quickly), but not me, oh no sirree, I needed to know how the Superman theme went. Tenampa remembered the beginning, but I still couldn't figure out the rest. It was frustrating!!! I always ended up thinking of a Star Wars song when I thought I had it.
I gave up after some 20 minutes of trying to remember, but it kept popping back in my memory every once in a while, and I knew I wasn't going to be able to sleep until I heard it. I finally remembered when driving to drop off Tenampa. Phew, that was killing me inside little by little...and now I can't get it out of my head.
On a different note, sometimes I mix up Spanish and English words, today FB did it with German and English, haha, it was pretty funny:

Wedding
It felt weird being invited to a wedding. Before, when I went to a wedding, it's cause my mom dragged me o a friend of an aunt or something. But now they invited me, so it's kind of weird, haha.
It was ok, like any other wedding, nothing out of the ordinary, and yes, I danced with my friend.
I didn't know where the wedding was, so I was going to look for it in Google Maps, and as soon as I get out of the shower, the power goes out, man, how the hell am I going to get there without internet??? My dad explained to me how to get there like 3 billion times, and I still was hesitant about what street to take. Good thing my friend knew where it was :)

No doodles for me
I love Google doodles...but I don't really see them unless it's so awesome that they start talking about it everywhere.
I never go to google.com, but I do search like 30 billion times a day on Google. But good ol' Chrome just needs me to type my query in the address bar and that's it, no google.com.
I visit the Google front page so little, that since I installed this version of Ubuntu (some 3 months ago), I had never typed it in Chromium's address bar. You know how it auto-completes your most typed address when you start typing (I hate that Firefox doesn't do that, at least not w/o an add-on). Today I just did it to take the take the snapshot
Anyway, to Google....cheers :D

Shade 2.0 pre alpha
20 days...20 days have I waited to get my car back, and today it's finally here, my car is actually here (unless they stole it in this little while :P).
And I should be happy, cause I love my car...but I'm not...not entirely at least. Ok, I'm better than when I didn't have a car and had to use the bus, but I can't help and feel that whoever "fixed" my car didn't give it his all.
It looks waaaaaay better than it used to, all the dents have been fixed, new headlights, painted, a new rim (the one it had before was all crooked).
Time for a test drive...only one headlight works (even though both headlights are new), and it points up, it has no taillights, it goes to the right, the a/c is very weak, board lights don't work, it doesn't beep when the keys are in the ignition and the door is open (and we all know that's a big deal, haha) and my window still doesn't work...ok, I knew about the window before, I'm going to fix that tomorrow. But still, I was promised stuff, or at least I didn't expect stuff to break while it was getting fixed.
But well, it's better than nothing, but I can't drive at night right now...

Rails for Zombies
Rails for Zombies is this "course" that's aimed at teaching you the basics of Ruby on Rails.
They show you a screencast explaining some of Rails functionality, and at the end of the video, they give you some challenges for you to complete, right there in the browser, you don't have to install Rails or anything, and like I said, it's pretty basic stuff, but it is very interactive and the screencasts are hosted by Gregg Pollack, a very active member of the Rails community, he's done tons of Rails screencasts :)
Anyway, it's also funny cause it's all "zombie oriented", they make lots of zombie references, and it keeps it fresh :D

Oh, yeah, you've convinced me...
I stomp a little on the Bible in case you want to stop reading right here (Hablo un poco mal de la Biblia por si quieren dejar de leer aquà mismo)
Every now and then, while walking happily in the street, you see either a guy with a white shirt and a red tie, or a woman with a long skirt...and they got their eyes on you, they have targeted you and won't take you out of their sights, you try to ignore them, or even walk far from them, but nope, you were too late, they have already approached you and are handing you a brochure...
Yes, I can imagine every person in Juárez (perhaps all of México) that has walked more than a kilometer from place to place has experienced this. And just to not be rude, you take it, and keep walking...
Then curiosity strikes...after making sure that (s)he is not following, you look down, turn the brochure over and oh yes, what else could it be about:
I'm not going into detail about what it says, but basically this is it: "You should believe in the bible cause the bible says you should believe in it"...what...the...fuck...
You know what? Yeah, tomorrow morning, I'm going to skip work, go to church and confess all my sins....pffffffffffffffff. There's a reason (or more likely several reasons) why some people don't believe in the bible and/or a God. Are they trying to tell me that those reasons can be easily dismissed by telling me the bible says I should believe in it? Oh, ok, so if somebody tells me Microsoft says Bing is the best search engine, then I should just use it and that's it???
Logic....intelligent arguments...proof...coherence...where have all of you gone?...

Hmmm, where are the keys?
In the ignition, that's where...
So, I get to work, and since my boss hadn't arrived yet, and he has the keys to the office, I decided to just sit in the Jeep, and wait for him to arrive. I always automatically take out the keys off the ignition when I turn it off, but since I wasn't going to get off the Jeep right away, I guess I didn't find it necessary to take them off...
Well, my boss got there, and work started... 6 hours later, my shift's over, I step out of the office, reach into my right pocket, and I only feel some change, huh, that's weird, I always, always put the keys and my change in the right pocket, and my cell phone in the left...I reach for the left pocket...nothing, just my phone...right pocket again, nope, they didn't magically appear, so I run to the Jeep and see through the window, and sure enough, there are the keys, so close and yet so far away, hanging in the ignition, I started panicking a little...I tried to open both doors, maybe I didn't lock them, maybe the locks didn't work, maybe if I tried too much it would work...
Not wanting to look stupid and go back to the office, I just took out my laptop, sat beneath a tree by the Jeep, and told Mari to tell her mom to call my mom to tell her to call me...cause I didn't have "saldo" in my phone, I couldn't make calls.
It took like 30 minutes for my mom to call, just so I could tell her that I locked myself out of the Jeep, she then called my dad, he got a locksmith and that's how we managed to open it. I am totally starting to hate that Jeep. At least my car makes a noise when the door is open and the keys are in the ignition (like every car should).

Tennis shoes...
...don't work.
Ok, they work, but they're still wet from the rain, cause I forgot to put them out to dry. I haven't used them these last 2 day, and been using my old dress shoes (that I've had since high school, 7 years ago).
I also didn't know what to blog about, and that's the best I could come up with.

Trying to take advantage
I went to play pool again, haha, I can't get enough of it, and I'm getting better each time :).
It was with a couple of friends I hadn't seen in almost a year, so it was nice catching up with them. And when the waiter gave us our check, we notice he was trying to rip us off. Good thing we don't just pay without looking at the charges first. He was charging like 5-10 pesos extra for everything, so at the end he wanted to charge like 80 pesos more than it was. But we made him cave, and he later returned with a "corrected" check, he looked kind of scared, like if we were going to tell on him or something. But nah, we just didn't want to get overcharged...
Also, my summer class is over, now to enjoy my last two weeks before the next semester starts :D

Only mother nature
It had been about 5 months since it rained over here, and usually summer is the rain season, something was off...
But today...oh, yes, today it had to rain. Don't you just love it when it starts raining as soon as you leave a building and stops as soon as you enter one? That happened to me...twice...
I usually get off school at 7, but today class ended at 6, and I'm not joking, as soon as I stepped out of the building, it starts raining...but it's not just rain, it seemed like a damn deluge!!! At some point I think I felt some hail!!!
I don't usually mind getting all wet from the rain, I kind of like it...but not today, I had my laptop in my backpack, I was scared to death of it getting wet, I was carrying my pack with my hands so the rain didn't get it that bad, using my own back as a shield. It's like 200 yards from the school to the "bus stop" (read: avenue where the bus passes by), it felt like 100 miles, I was walking as fast as I could, but then my vision started getting all blurry...my hair gel was starting to drip down to my eyes, and I had to alternate my hands to wipe the gel off my eyes and hold my backpack.
The bus usually takes like 2 minutes to pass by, but of course not today, I was waiting for it for about 10 minutes. And again, not joking, as soon as I got in the bus, the rain nearly stopped. Touche, mother nature...touche.
I get off the bus, and no more than 2 minutes later, it started again, aaaahhhh!!!! And just when my backpack had stopped dripping water all over the place. Then I fell down, haha (had nothing to do with the rain, just plain stupidity). At least my house is downhill so I could walk way faster, and there are some trees in the way, natural shields for me and my laptop, and the death river (my street) wasn't deadly yet, so no problem there.
When I got home, I was seriously too afraid to take out my laptop, I just laid down my backpack, and left it there to dry for like an hour (after checking there wasn't pools of water inside the backpack). Then I managed to overcome my fear, I took out the laptop, opened the lid...and slowly pressed the power button...it worked :D. Then I plugged in a flash drive in a USB port...it didn't do anything...heart beating faster, plugged it in another port, and it worked...back to the first port and it worked...........................total relief!!!!!
Wow, lengthy post, but this doesn't happen every day :)

Out of juice
My car is in the shop, finally getting fixed after the crash, so I have to take the bus home from school, and it's now been almost two weeks. It's a good 40 minute trip from school to my house, so I pop out my headphones and listen to some tunes in my cell phone.
But because of that, the battery has been lasting two days tops, when it used to last two whole weeks with a single charge. And for some reason, I can't find my phone charger and I have to charge my phone with the USB cable, though it takes a whole lot longer, I don't think the cable is charging as fast as it should. It takes like 6 hours for about 3/4 of a full charge.
I can't seriously wait to get a new phone. But in due time...

Plan B...well, just B
There was never a plan B.
Mari came to visit, and Tenampa joined us. We had planned to go ice skating and then skateboarding a little with Mari's board. But the plans got ruined when we couldn't get a hold of a vehicle.
So we had to do something in the house, but we always suck at making plans out of the blue. We were going to record a comedy sketch, but found we needed more preparation. And while thinking about what to do, we went to the store, and we thought it would be funny if I got in the Jeep jumping. (it's my cousin's but my dad borrows it and he lends it to me while my car gets fixed). And Mari came up with the idea of me coming out of the other side...well, let's just say it didn't end well. Well, you've seen the video, haha
Then we came home and played some Pictionary. That game is awesome!!!

Two times champions
Family Sunday, like it should be :).
As on every Sunday with a México football (soccer) game, a mutual and unspoken plan was made between me and my dad to watch the game together. This time my mom also joined us, and we watched as México beat Uruguay to become two time champions of the world in the U-17 World Cup.
After that my dad, my little sister and me went to the movies (watched "All Good Things", I thought it was ok). We wanted to get out of the house, and the three of use love going to the movies, so it was an easy choice.
I have given up on my cell phone camera, that's why I've been neglecting pics in my posts. For it to take a "decent" picture, there needs to be like 3 billion different light sources or the picture becomes indistinguishable.

Almost time for the sunrise
It's 4am over here. I had been a while since I got back home this late. I went to play pool with my friends, and after that just hanging out, on the outside of each of my friends' houses when I was dropping them off, and as a sort of tradition, when I dropped of the last of them, we stayed for like 3 hours outside his house, just talking, and from time to time, getting frightened about the weird noises in the street.
It reminds me of a time a couple of years back, when every Saturday night, my friends from my then-job and I got together in one of our houses, just playing some Rock Band and Smash Bros, hanging out, watching movies, what have you, but those times, every single time I got back home no earlier than 9am Sunday morning, lots of time well past noon...yeah, I used to be able to stay way past the sunrise every week without much consequence...
I'm pretty beat right now, so I'll just head to bed (I woke up Diego when I got home cause I forgot my door key and couldn't get in, haha)

Internationalization
Web apps need to be internationalized if you plan on having regular traffic from all over the world. Such is the case of all of Google products.
Lucky for me, the new Google+ bar on top of some of the Google services has to be in the same language of the service itself. Enter Gmail.
I get to see all my notifications in both English and German without having to switch languages, just using my Google+ bar :)

Like a kid with a new toy
My boss invited me to Google+ in the morning, but I was only able to log in like at 6pm... and that's all I've been doing since then, just playing around with it. Hopefully more people will join, cause right now I have like 5 friends, haha.
Can't wait to try out Hangouts with people, and not just myself, haha. But yeah, I'm too excited about it :)

Weird FB behavior
So, I'm on Facebook, clicking here and there, liking this and that, commenting, you know the drill. And suddenly I see this:
It was supposed to have only one like. Ok, strange things sometimes happen, and then I see this:
Ok, that's pretty weird...ok, not really, it was probably just a stylesheet that didn't get downloaded properly. And later I found out that Facebook just announced video chat. Ok, it makes sense, when Facebook adds new features, it sometimes acts weird for a bit. Which led me to believe that maybe the one with the problem was me, cause when browsing Mari's blog, I see this:

Defective...
...ears.
For like about a year or so, one of my ears has not been to it's fullest, but it goes on and off, and it's not always the same one.
Right now my left one sucks, it still works, but it's like when you get water in it...but for days or weeks at a time, yeah, it sucks big time.
To make matters worse, my headphones got squished in my backpack, and the right one kind of broke. I put it back together but it sounds very soft...so I have this problem, if I put them like they go, I listen to both of them very softly, cuase my left ear doesn't work, and the right headphone doesn't work...and if I switch sides, then I hear the right one pretty good, but I can't listen to the left one, since it has both the defective ear and headphone...so I bought new ones, haha, they were $5 and were rated good in Amazon so I gave them a go.
Still, I hope my ear didn't stop working just because. This last time it started like 3 weeks ago, and still counting. But before that, both ears lasted like 3 months working just fine...this makes me feel very old :(

HTML+JS+CSS
Winning equation.
I hate Flash, almost as much as IE. So I think it's awesome when I see cool animations using only HTML, JavaScript and CSS, like this one: Hobo Lobo of Hamelin.
I find it annoying to be in a job where I can't use all the latest technologies because most people use IE, and I totally understand, but I feel wrong not even considering about them, like all of the HTML5 new technologies, like canvas or audio and video, stuff like that, even drag & drop.
But oh well, starting with IE9, most standards have been implemented, so at least things are going in the right direction.
Now, if they only hired a designer it'd be awesome!!! Cause sometimes I'm stuck having to "design" parts of the site...and no, just no, I fail 100% of the times, cannot design at all!!!

Back to normal
My mom was out of town, in México City visiting a relative (cousin of hers I think) and now the house is back to normal. Of course, it's not like we can't live without her, Ricky cleaned the house while she was out, and each of us worried about our own food, but still, things are different without her here.
She took a very well deserved little vacation, and that's all that matters, she got to relax and travel :).
My day consisted of two things mostly: reading and watching Friends. I started watching Friends cause Ricky started watching it again, and lots of times, when one of us starts watching a show, the other two follow suit, haha. But since I've seen all the episodes too many times, I continued reading my JavaScript book (which I haven't finished, I'm like halfway through :P), I like reading while having something in the TV, don't know why, but I enjoy it (as long as it's something I've already watched). And every hour or so, I went to Hacker News, see if there was anything interesting.
I haven't bought my third book yet cause I've been paying up my computer as fast as I can, so I can start saving way faster for the epic trip, and of course renewing my visa.

Sleepiness got the best of me...
Ahhh, nothing, like a saturday afternoon, after having been busy all week, having barely any time for yourself, you finally get to the weekend where you can do whatever you like, yup, I look forward to the weekend all week long...and what do you do in that free time? Well, I slept...
Tenampa, me and another friend went to the movies, and I got home like at 6:30pm...and I fell asleep, woke up at 9pm, and went to bed again at 12am...and just as I was about to fall asleep, I remembered I hadn't blogged, haha.
Today was one of those days where you feel like all of your energy has been drained and simply can't resist your tiredness and sleepiness, just can't (I keep saying that it should be illegal to work on Saturdays). But oh does it feel good to sleep, I know I'll wake up early tomorrow, and have a work-free, homework-free Sunday, like it should be. And since I just finished LA Noire, I may finally start playing StarCraft II.

Push notifications
I'm going to start reading about Comet (programming), a model for doing push notifications to the browser.
Today we launched the new version of the page where I work at http://puentelibre.mx/ and I have all these ideas of what to do with push notifications so the user can have one hell of an experience. Something kind of like Facebook or Twitter and how they tell you if you have new tweets or notifications.
I want to step it up!!! As of the moment, I have no idea how it's done, but then again, everything I do at work, I learned while I was already there, so, future is bright :)

Free software :)
Just for having an email address with my school's domain name on it, I get free software from Microsoft at DreamSpark.
I may not be the biggest Microsoft fan in the world, but I think that's a pretty good thing they have going on.
That's how I got Visual Studio 2010 Professional. There's even a version of Windows Server 2008 in there.
Of course, open source software is also free, and most of the time, better, but for one that time when I have to make a program in C#...well, nothing beats VS imo.
