I was browsing the movies in Google Play and I notice that a lot of movies have a bunch of 1 star ratings, even movies that usually have high ratings elsewhere.
Naturally, I was intrigued. So I go to read the reviews and I found out why. I'm not kidding when I say half of the reviews are among the lines of "it's too expensive, you can download it for free in the computer", meaning, of course, downloading a pirated copy (I'm talking about the Mexican store, I don't know about other markets). Other reviews are something like "I think they should offer some movies for free like in the internet", meaning sites where you can stream movies illegally. I think about 1 percent of the 1 star reviews I read were actually legitimate reviews.
I am so very disappointed. First of all, because of piracy. I admit, in the past I did download things like that. But not anymore. People worked hard on making the movie or album or book or video game, and I want to support them.
Second of all, because apparently people don't know that downloading movies through bit torrent or stuff like that is illegal, or they do know but it has become an acceptable way to acquire things. I mean, to give a bad review to a movie because it's too expensive compared to the illegal copy is just incredibly stupid. If you say, "it's too expensive, I found it cheaper at [other store]", then that's okay, I have no problem with that.
Third of all, because they weren't even that expensive to begin with. They just want to pay like $1 dollar to own the movie. No manchen!
I'm afraid of what this will mean for Google Music. Because that's the one service I'm waiting to be available in México.
Anyway, have a good day :D.
