A night at the movies

Today was Batman day. That's it.

Sure, the Olympic games opening ceremony was today, but that was just like an opening show.

One of my most anticipated movies in recent years, and it did not disappoint.

Knowing me, I'll probably go watch it again :)

Ich bin glücklich. Ich will Batman wieder zu sehen.

Updating, downloading and updating again.

In the past 3 days I've updated my phone's OS three times, all of them with Android 4.1.

The first time I installed a CyanogenMod version that wasn't stable, and I paid the price because I couldn't take or place calls, and some apps kept crashing, so it had to go.

Then I installed the stock version of Android, but it unrooted my phone. I stuck with it for over a whole day, but started missing the features of CyanogenMod, though I did play with Google Now for a long while.

After a while I risked installing the unstable version of CyanogenMod again but this time following proper directions of wiping data and cache. And it worked!!! That's what I'm using right now.

The downloading part of the title comes from the 3 times all my apps got automatically downloaded from the store...that was painful.

I think I broke my phone

Well, not broken as in "it doesn't work anymore." More like "it's doing something it shouldn't do, but it can still function."

Whenever I'm not charging it, which is most of the time, the phone goes on and off to charging mode around every 3-5 seconds, like if I was continuously plugging it and unplugging it. It bugs the hell out of me.

And normally, it wouldn't really be a huuuge problem (besides me being bugged by it), BUT whenever you plug in the phone, the screen turns on for a few seconds to let you know it's charging, and now whenever the phone goes into charging mode, which is quite often, the screen turns on, so the screen is on most of the time. I'm afraid I might do something I regret later without even knowing it while my phone is in my pocket.

I read online that it might be the microUSB port that needs cleaning, and I'm certainly hoping it is that. I would die a little inside if that part just stopped working properly out of the blue. Plus, I don't know if the battery is getting damaged or the phone itself...

Shortest school break ever

That's what I'm about to live. I just finished my summer class, today the 19th day of July, and in 11 days my regular semester starts, the 30th of July...how messed up is that?

Ok, I'm the one that chose to get a summer class, but still, first day of school in July??? That's just not right!!! I know, though, that later on I'm going to appreciate it, because my last day of school for the semester is November 14th or something like that.

Anyway, the summer class couldn't have ended at a better time, cause Steam is having a summer sale, and I've bought like 5 games for a ridiculous amount of money (a low amount), and when school starts, I hope I don't have the urge to play a lot, so I'm going to use these 11 days to do so :).

Summer class

The class itself sounded promising: Databases II, and I love databases. There's no quantity of knowledge that is too much knowledge.

However...I don't know if it's because the teacher thinks of us as high school material, or if the plan actually calls for it, but we're seeing some ridiculously easy stuff. I'm in my class right now, and we're "learning" about mysql queries in PHP, and how basic HTML work...I mean, stuff you learn in 10 minutes after googling "HTML tutorial".

The class was really interesting at first, we were learning about database normalization, something that is really important in real world applications. We were also learning about database designing and making diagrams...

And now, 1 week away from the end of the class, we're learning HTML....come on!!! Anyway, the "good" thing is I can totally ignore the teacher and do stuff in the computer, though I would've preferred learning something new...

I will try to write something in German at the end of my posts, something I have learned in the last couple of days...

Attempting to learn German...again

So, Junkie made me a movie recommendation, The Wave, it's German, and naturally, it's spoken in German...but I haven't watched it :/...although, it did rekindle my interest in retaking my internet-provided German lessons...but did nothing about it.

A couple of days after that, I read an article about a dude learning a language in 3 months (intensive learning), and I kind of thought, maybe not in 3 months, but I do want to learn German, damn it!!!

So I started again, I signed up to busuu.com. You can take basic lessons of many languages (and, of course, for a price, the more advanced lessons), but the cool thing is that on your writing and spoken exercises, you get corrected by native speakers, so it's pretty cool. And you get to correct other people trying to learn your native language, and I definitely like helping people learn Spanish :D.

It's been two days though, so, let's wait and see.

Auf Wiedersehen und bis bald! :D

Jelly Bean

The new version of Android (4.1) is out for a couple of devices, including my phone (Galaxy Nexus), and I want it badly. Unfortunately, I installed an after-market ROM on my phone, CyanogenMod 9, and the source code also went into AOSP today, so I have to wait, 'cause there's no Jelly Bean version of CyanogenMod out yet.

Lately, it's all I keep reading about related to Android, and mostly good things, and although it's not a major change like it was from 2.3 to 4.0 (the version I have), I still long for it.

Also, I like Apple less and less every time (not that I ever was a fan or anything)...don't know what it has to do...but true nonetheless.

Up and running

My domain (traposycloroformo.com) had expired so my Three Six Five blog was inaccessible for a couple of days. But it's renewed now and it's working again :)

Awesome night (last night)

Dream Theater concert :). I know that's all I talk about, and I don't care.

It was a pretty good concert. I was kind of far because I bought the cheapest ticket. The sound was pretty good, it was a small stage (it was in a theater after all). They showed their characteristic cartoon at the beginning of the show where the members have some kind of power and they see like the DT-singal (like the batsignal) and they rush to the stage.

The setlist was:
1. Bridges in the Sky [A Dramatic Turn of Events]
2. 6:00 [Awake]
3. The Dark Eternal Night [Systematic Chaos]
4. This is the Life [A Dramatic Turn of Events]
5. The Root of All Evil [Octavarium]
6. Lost Not Forgotten [A Dramatic Turn of Events]
7. A Fortune in Lies [When Day & Dream Unite]
8. Surrounded (preceded by a Jordan Rudess solo) [Images & Words]
9. On the Backs of Angels [A Dramatic Turn of Events]
10. War Inside My Head [Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence]
11. The Test that Stumped Them All [Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence]
12. The Spirit Carries On (preceded by John Petrucci solo) [Metropolis Pt 2]
13. Breaking All Illusions [A Dramatic Turn of Events]
14. Metropolis Pt. 1 (encore) [Images & Words]

They played 14 songs (time is 1 hour and 46 minutes not counting the solos), out of which they had only played 3 and a half the previous two times I saw them. They played "The Dark Eternal Night," "Surrounded" and "The Spirit Carries On" when I saw them in 2007 for the Systematic Chaos tour and they had played part of Metropolis Pt. 1 in a medley on Gigantour 2005.

I was a little disappointed that they didn't play any song from "Black Clouds & Silver Linings" (their previous album) or from "Train of Thought", but after all it was a tour of their new album "A Dramatic Turn of Events", and they played 5 songs from that album.

Anyway, now to look forward to the next concert I go to...whichever it may be :)

Concert preparations

Tomorrow I'm going to go see Dream Theater in El Paso, and that means, of course, I've been listening to Dream Theater songs a lot lately (more than usual). It is also the first time I go to a concert by myself so I actually need to know how to get to the venue, cause I don't really know my way in EP. Got my map saved in my phone, although it's pretty straightforward. I have no plans for tomorrow (I'm ditching school) and my car is good to go. The only thing that I can't predict is the line to cross to El Paso...although, I'm thinking a bad case scenario where it will take me like 2-3 hours to cross, so I'm ready to leave early from my house...

They've release 2 albums since I last saw them live, and I know they don't always play the same songs, so it's pretty exciting...oh, yeah, and the fact that they're my favorite band may have something to do with the excitement.

I hate summer...

...that's it.

I just hate it. At least in this desert city I live in. the 100ºF almost every day, the nights of over 80ºF, the roaches, the mosquitoes, the little bit of dying every time I get in my car because it's a burning hell, the sweating, the waking up in the middle of the night because it's too hot, the moodiness of everyone, the super long days, the feeling of getting punched in the face every time you go outside, and lots of other stuff...

I long for winter...loooooong for it. I'll take 20ºF (and it doesn't even get that cold) over 100ºF every day, no contest...

And the worst part: summer itself just started a couple of weeks ago.
